Why Do My Heels Hurt?

Have you been affected by disorders involving the Achilles tendon or suffer from pain in your heels?  Achilles and heel pain can result from several etiologies, one such is Achilles tendinopathy or Plantar Fasciitis.  The pain can be limiting and with high level athletes can significantly limit their training. In the athletic patient, extracorporeal shock waves have been used for this condition.

During my sports medicine fellowship at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in Palo Alto, California, we were able to treat quite a few high level athletes for Achilles tendinopathy  with extra-corporeal pulsed activated therapy (“EPAT” sound wave) some of whom went on to compete at a high level at the 2011 World Track and Field Championship at Daegu, South Korea.  In addition, were we able to publish on our findings:  Extra-Corporeal pulsed-activated therapy (“EPAT” sound wave) for Achilles tendinopathy: a prospective study. J Foot Ankle Surg. 2011 Amy-June;50(30):315-9.
